Time to unload that gas guzzler?

“Cars and trucks” and “Recreational Vehicles” listings in our For Sale section are up 120% and 100% respectively in just the last 8 months, a trend that is accelerating into March and April.

Would be nice to see a two year chart for a comparison.

Interesting. I wonder if causation is people who can’t keep up payments due to a softening of the economy, folks scaling down due to gas prices, or a combination of those and other factors.

How are bicycle ‘looking to buy’ listings doing? Mine gets fantastic mileage.

GAS STRIKE MAY 2ND THIS FRIDAY DO NOT BUY GAS

On Friday May 2nd, there will be a gas strike!

Do not buy gas on that day.
We could cost the United States 2 billion dollars.
We have to get the message to them somehow so.
    Help get the message across.
Send this to everyone you know .

Too funny: I found a Grand Wagoneer (white) on CL just a few days ago. Milage on that beast? Not good. But I’ve been pining for one for over a decade. Not sure if I’ll actually grab it.

Can you do a chart to show the number of people posting resumes online, and the number of escorts in business (LOL) to show how the economy is only in a “slowdown?”

Ah, how does that compare to growth in traffic on Craigslist? That looks like the growth curve of a popular web site to me.

$460 a gallon for diesel. I still have last years fuel in the tank. Hope they choke on it.

  10. Sean@CL Says:

@Raj: If I pulled this chart right, looks to be a 600% increase in cars and trucks postings. Of course, a big factor in that is the increasing number of people using Craigslist each year, but this is still pretty substantial.

I agree we should be driving smaller cars. But, think about it. With the seat belt laws and the required child seats you cannot carry 3 children in a small car. My suggestion is to look for alternative fuel efficiencies. I am using Ultimateme2 in my Honda V6 2001 and get an average of 27 mpg. By using this product, I am also reducing harmful emissions from the air. Therefore, reducing pollution. ItIf we all do our part we will use less gasoline/diesel and help the environment.

  12. Huh? Says:

Ummmm… Chris, If you don’t buy gas on Friday, then most likely you’ll just have to buy it on Saturday. I think what you mean to say is “don’t DRIVE.” Besides, no one forces you to buy gas.

  13. Gil Says:

One reason that sales are up here, is because a lot of people have given up on ebay as a place to sell them. Too many scams, non-paying bidders along with all the other ebay and Paypal BS. I have a car to sell in the near future, and it won’t be going on ebay. It will be listed on CL instead.

To the gas strike person, seriously, if you want to have an impact, do something that is actually useful. Even if the whole nation didn’t buy gas for one day, you would have done precisely nothing to the oil industry.

Great suggestion for those that haven’t already considered parking the SUV for when the need arises and you need to arrive unfrazzled from having the kids climb over the seats. Buy a gas mizzer for the trips to the store and to soccer practice. The new term will be “Gas Cost averaging” I own a 2005 Expedition with a towing package that can’t be matched by the new addition to the family. A Ford Focus, 35 miles to the gallon an American product that has a $3700 rebate on currently. Yes it is more insurance and parking issues but it is always so nice to treat yourself and your family to a ride in the big SUV. For those wondering, no I don’t work for Ford…

I love craigslist and buy and sell cars all the time. I currently have a few SUVs that will be posted soon. I am fully expecting to get substantially less for them than I would have a few months ago (in the neighborhood of 20-30% less). Considering gas prices I am really curious as to whether motorcycle and scooter sales have increased at all. I definately believe in decreasing the size of my footprint, but I am also curious as to verifyable info that will help me increase the size of my pocketbook as well. CRAIGSLIST IS AMAZING!!!!
