Thanks for the brave man saving the cat.
I also love cats and I have 4 little cuties roaming around the house.

  5. J. Ochs Says:

That is so awesome that craigslist can be utilized in this maner. Hats off to the tree trimmer that responded.

  6. Richard Says:

    Bravo,
Craig’s list is better than 911. If I have a problem I’ll try posting it here first before calling in the government. People here are so much better than government.

  7. tbalderrama Says:

  8. Danielle Says:

Yay! That is such a heartwarming story!

  9. mopargurl Says:

Seriously people!! Get a fricken life, it’s a damn cat for Pete’s sake. It will climb it’s lazy stupid ass down when it feels like it.
If it didn’t it would have been NO GREAT LOSS!!! There are too many of the damn things around as it is.

  10. Beverly Says:

The reason we have all the cats roaming is because people do not spay and neuter.

  11. Kiyisha Says:

Mopar its people like you that i would love to meet irl and slap across the face

Grats to the man who got his cat outta the tree!! I know how hard it is to get them down when they climb too high, they have no problem getting up but when they have to get down its heartwrenching when they cant

  12. Asti Says:

The reason you don’t see cat skelatons in trees is because if not rescued,
they become sleep deprived and fall out and either die or are badly injured. Kudos to these rescuers!

  13. jane hanson Says:

thank you knd rescuer - as a veteran Humane Society executive, I can assure you that the skeletons are found at the base of trees and that all cats, spayed, neutered or not, will climb a tree. Accidents happen, cats get out, help is needed. Compassion is not wasted on animals - if genuine, it has an endless supply. Christ said “as you have done unto the least of these, you have done unto me.” Whether you are religious or not, the Golden Rule applies across the board. If you feel that you are above this, you too deserve compassion.

  14. susie Says:

Cheers to the Rescuer - and jeers to the Fireman and Mopargurl!!! My sister’s cat was stuck up in a tree for 5 days (two of them rainy) because the Firemen in Pasadena CA couldnt be bothered with a three block drive to help out the poor soul. A tree trimmer in this case also came to the rescue (but he was paid). It’s unbelievable that anyone would have to weigh in bad on someone who lends a hand to assist someone in trouble.
Take heart good people. Good always prevails over evil (and stupid and lazy!).

I think it is great to hear a positive outcome where neighbors are helping neighbors. We all have to live with each other and showing compassion for someone else’s values is what helps keep our community together.

  16. bill Says:

get a BB gun. it’s great for cats in trees, and helping them get over your fence. also works great on training dogs not to shit on your lawn.

  17. Debbie Says:

To Mopargurl and bill. I feel sorry for people like you. To be so cold to any living thing tells me you must have or had a very unhappy life. People like you are just felt sorry for (pitiful isn’t it). Domestic animals are totally dependent on us humans. To help out in any situation big or small says alot about a person. Just as your responses have said alot about you both. You sound like a couple of bullies. Yeah, real proud of yourselves huh? whoopy do, I would have to think I’m not missing much not knowing either of you. Just know this: It takes a bigger person to go out of their way to help someone or something. Guess your not grown up yet. MAJOR KUDOS TO THE TREE TRIMMER !!!

  18. NC Gal Says:

I work for a tree company and we get about 2 calls a month for this issue. We are small - 6 employees and even at that our fuel runs about 4 grand a month. We simply can’t afford to run our trucks and men out to every “CAT IN TREE” call. We have never been offered compensation for it either. People really get mad at us for not doing it. I’m sure it’s the same with the firemen. Suppose they were getting a cat out of tree while your loved one was having a heart attack or your house was on fire. Think of the liability. Glad to hear that someone was able to help - but please don’t bash firemen and tree companies if you find yourself in this situation.

  19. justmenicki3 Says:

There are just some VERY SPECIAL people in the world. The tree man wasn’t concerned with anything other than helping out another person that was so distraught over their animal.

We watch Animal Planet and see people risking their lives to help animals all the time without a thought that their selfless act could cost them their own life. That is AMAZING!

You deserve a big THANK YOU! I know you will be rewarded many times over for your selfless acts in life.

  20. 4 furry frenz Says:

that’s sooooooo awesum - made me smile -so sad not more people like that in the world - but restores my faith even if it is just 4 a moment ;-)

  21. Z Says:

I love cats too, but I can see what NC is saying and understand. Seriousy, cats are capable of getting out of a tree. What goes up must come down and they are the best climbers. Put some food under the tree and go back inside, the cat will come down.

We just rescued 3 kittens and a Moma Cat & now after weeks have to go on vacation.
All the no-kill shelters on L.I. are loaded beyound capacity.
We have about 2 spent months domesticating them.
Antone know of a free spay clinic?
In suffolk County L.I. near ronkonkomaN.Y.???

We appaud the man that went to save the kitten in the tree.

  23. Kitty Litter Says:

You know, at 60 feet I would think the cat couldn’t really make enough noise to keep anyone awake at night,,,, unless the tree was next to a three or four story apartment complex.

The article also doesn’t really say how this arborist actually got the cat down. Did they use a chainsaw? I would think that taking down the tree would pit the tree hugger’s against the kitty lovers.

My ex girlfriend had a cat that liked to climb a big tree in her yard. The only thing I ever saw at the base of her tree was dead robins, smashed robin eggs and maybe a wing or two of another unidentifiable species.

My girlfriend never really cared about the poor birds or their unhatched young. In fact she always smiled and said her cat was such a good hunter.

One day new neighbors moved in. Her cat tried hunting their Neapolitan Mastiff. Well the cat wasn’t actually hunting it, she was teasing it from the top of a wooden fence. My girlfriend thought that was cute too.

She pointed it out to me one day and with a big smile said look at my cat, “she’s driving that big old goofy looking dog crazy by walking the top of the fence like a tight rope!”

I have to admit, I never knew a cat could strut along the top of the fence like a circus performer. She’d look down at the dog every couple of steps and let out a big, “MEOWWWW”

I learned something else that day, as did my girlfriend and her prize cat. Big, old looking, goofy Neapolitan Mastiffs, have some really incredible athletic abilities of their own,,, and speed, damn them dogs can move when they want to.

Although I do wish my girlfriend wasn’t watching that day when we all learned something about that breed of dog. Even though the demonstration only lasted about one nanosecond, it changed my girlfriend for life.

She was so distraught over the cat receiving the same treatment as the birds have always received, that I couldn’t stand to listen to her cry anymore. So had to dump her.

I was afraid I would feel a little lonely if I dumped her, so just to cover that base, I purchased two Neapolitan Mastiffs from the same breeder as her neighbor’s dog came from.

I lost a girlfriend but gained two dogs,,,,,, and it was the best trade off I’ve ever made!

  25. Judy McClellan Says:

I really applaud the tree climber that rescued the poor cat. Our neighborhood experienced a cat climbing up a tree just a few days ago. We could hear it meowing all through the day and night. I called the fire department as the cat was in the trunk of the the tree at the time. They would not come out but because of numerous calls from the neighbors, they came out the following day and the cat had moved up higher. They did have a ladder but it was only 26 feet high. They did not have any decent equipment but they tried to jiggle the cat down with these long sticks, needless to say, the poor cat just became very scared and went up even higher because the sticks may have knocked him down and then what, he would have hit the truck or the pavement so hard he would have died. The firemen thought he would go back the other direction and get down the tree. It does not work that way. I still appreciate their efforts even though I know it was just the calling of many people that got them here and they would not have even bothered with just one call. That is ok, they tried. I also appreciate our animal control person that at least came out to look at the situation.

The cat was in the tree 4 days growing weaker and weaker. It was a kitten actually that was a house cat and had snuck out. The kitten had no experience with the outdoors and the dangers that may confront him.

The cat finally did come down but it was very very weak and scared. I would like to know if anyone knows of any professional cat climbers in the Turlock, Modesto area that we can call if this occurs again. We understand there is a fee of course. We are all seniors on a fixed income but we could split and share the cost if it was fair. Please give me a name and number in case this happens again as there is so many people abandoning cats everywhere. Our neighborhood is ran over with cats but we are a humane people and we do not want a cat to suffer even one day being up a tree, scared and hungry. I have managed even on my fixed income of very little to get 6 abandoned cats fixed. I went through Alley Cat Guardians of Modesto where the cost is $20.00 per cat but the cats have to be abandoned or wild. I hope that more and more people are doing this so that there will be less cats out there having more cats. Unfortunately the clinic is only open 1 or maybe 2 days a week and you have to be on a list. I have 4 more abandoned cats that have shown up and I pray they do not get pregnant before they are to be fixed. They cannot fix these cats till the end of January as the list is so long. If anyone knows of a low cost clinic in Turlock, please let me know so I can get these cats fixed sooner before they go into heat and get pregnant. I cannot keep them inside as I already have 2 indoor cats and live in a very tiny one bedroom house. My indoor cats are fixed. It cost more to get them fixed as they were not abandoned and they never will be abandoned as long as I can help it. These poor cats that are abandoned need to be fixed. Turlock needs a low cost clinic. I know the vets will not like it but we have to get one otherwise there will be so many cats that will not have homes and then what???? Anyway please give my information on a tree climber that can be found in Turlock or Modesto. I have looked on the internet for a low cost clinic in Turlock but there is nothing listed. If anyone knows something about a low cost clinic in Turlock, let me know. I am writing to our congressman or anyone that will listen hoping that we can in the future get a low cost clinic. I know there are some in Modesto but we also need one here.
