Deja Blumenthal

True to form, CT AG Blumenthal is once again indulging in self-serving publicity at the expense of the truth and his constituents — touting a subpoena on television and telling whoppers about craigslist “reneging” on promises — even before craigslist had been served with a subpoena.

As AG Blumenthal knows full well, craigslist has gone beyond fulfilling its legal obligations, far beyond classifieds industry norms, has more than lived up to any promises it made, and working together with its partners is in fact a leader in the fight against human trafficking and exploitation.

With his senatorial race in full swing however, AG Blumenthal won’t let the facts get in the way of a good photo op. Or as I heard while in his offices 2 years ago — “The most dangerous place on earth is getting caught between Dick Blumenthal and a television camera.”

“The most dangerous place on earth is getting caught between Dick Blumenthal and a television camera.”

    Clearly that remains true today.

Interesting that such a profound media-whore would fail to afford even the slightest professional courtesy to the real ones.

Rumor has it you met with DNA Foundation at their anti-trafficking tech conference….any update?

    is it a re-election year?

    Hey Blumenthal…
There are TERRORISTS in your state planning large-scale attacks (like the recent one in Times Square)… and you’re wasting time and man-power on nonsense like the Adult Section of Craigslist????
You should be removed from office for negligence.

  5. Alex Davis Says:

Craigslist is NOT the problem its the people that abuse this site. Craigslist in my eyes from what Ive seen on the news has been a great tool for law enforcement and makes it easier to catch the ones who break the law. Blumenthal is just trying to get himself media attention for the election coming up instead of focusing on real issues in this country.

  6. Wonderer Says:

Beside the immediate point, perhaps, but cases like this do make me wonder at the very concept of a victimless crime such as prostitution: whether one personally agrees with a given action or not, how can an action that has no victim be a crime?

  7. Russ Says:

Because there are so many control freaks out there who want to legislate morality.

  8. book publishers Says:

Craigslist is a great institution that will survive this baloney. If it wasn’t for that arrogant sicko in boston who needs to go to jail asap, no one would be bothering Craigslist, which is NOT the problem.

  9. Raia Says:

Mr. Blumenthal is clearly all about “self” and a perfect example of exactly what we DO NOT want holding a “public office” and posing as a “public servant” for “We The People”.

  10. Raia Says:

P.S. I wonder if ebay has contributed to his campaign?

They’ve purchased every other politician across the US and this stinks of ebay.

I think that a deeper message from these attacks on CL tries to follow the same sort of myth as as not carrying condoms so you won’t have sex. If it’s not “there”, then it doesn’t happen.

He’s a politican. Politician are douchbags.

Remove the politicans, and end the corporations power over our government.

America becomes a free country again.

  13. tezgah Says:

I don’t trust politicians. They may be sponsored by …….. leave craigslist alone.

This is also the politician who was caught lying about his Vietnam service (he was a pampered rich kid who received 5 deferments and finally got an opening in the Marine Corps Reserves. ) For those of us old enough to remember, the Reserves and National Guard were once legal means of dodging Vietnam/regular military service.

He is a disgrace to Connecticut, but the people here will probably make this self-serving politician our next Senator–replacing the self-serving (I didn’t know I got special treatment and interest rates) Chris Dodd.

a lot of people vote republican and believe that they are republican ,but if you have annual income of less than 6 million dollars and assets of less than 30 million dollars ,you are not a republican. You are a Democrat whether you like it or not and when you vote republican you are just shooting yourself in the foot and dragging your children and your neighbors down to ruination. The world seems to be over run with shallow thinking people who are bent on self destruction.

I am a social worker who has worked with sex workers. I have seen firsthand how scum-of-the-earth pimps exploit sex workers and steal their money. they threaten them with violence and often force them to take on clients they aren’t comfortable with.

If every sex worker I served could have broken away from her pimp and gone into business for herself via Craigslist ads the world would have been a much better place.

These “do-gooders” are playing right into the hands of the pimps. Well done, “anit-exploitation” groups. You just made matters so much worse.

  19. paris Says:

Thats right! Now watch the streets will be filled up again with the girls. The pimps are happy, they are needed again. And I’m sorry but I think people have the numbers wrong on who is being forced..there is plenty of willing women out there. Teachers, waitresses..lots of us now closer to desperate than before. You havent fixed any problem, you made it worse. Watch, you have proved again we are doing something we are not supossed to do so when the next girl gets murdered remember she couldnt tell anyone what she was doing so know one knew when she was getting killed. You get it? I bet not. Damn iggnorance.
